R. Tait McKenzie, physician, physical therapist, physical educator, and sculptor served the University of Pennsylvania as its first Professor of Physical Education, 1904-1929. Born in 1867, McKenzie spent his youth in Almonte, Ontario, Canada. He entered McGill University at the age of eighteen earning both his undergraduate degree and his M.D. degree (1892). Boris Blai was born in Rovno, Russia in 1893 and learned sculpture studying with Auguste Rodin in Paris. In 1917 Blai immigrated to the U.S. and he taught art at the Oak Lane Country Day School, an affiliate of Temple University. In 1935 Blai founded the Tyler School of Art located on the estate of Stella Elkins Tyler, a former student of his.
